What do you see?
Truth or deceit?
Don’t just frown and take a peep.
I said, what do you see?
A female or a lady?
A woman or just your gravy?
Look into my eyes and tell me what do you see?
They say the eye is the beholder.
Behold your gaze upon me, let it fonder.
Do you think I’m beautiful?
Or maybe you think I’m ungrateful.
Your presence reeks.
It stinks; you are meek and weak.
I hear your eyes judging and evading like green flies.
You try so hard to deny but, I see through your lies.
I do not despise you, you think I am nothing.
I am something!
I am everything even when you’re laughing.
I am a queen.
I am of colour, strong and yes, I will be mean.
I will defend myself and others, I will say what I mean.
What do you see now?
Is it a layer behind a layer?
Am I just hidden within your dark lair?
Do you see me for me?
Or do you see me for free?
Don’t do as your please!
I am a breaker of chains.
I give relief to pain.
I will never let you hold me hostage; you will never gain.
So I ask one more, what do you see?
Do you see love or hate?
Do you see mirrors stuck together by fate?
We will never cross lines, that on your own you can debate.
I see what I am; a reflection of kindness, in reality its blinding.
I am your reality, the peace that which you’re finding.
Your play thing is what I’m not.
Courage and resilience is what I was taught.
Never will I give in to what I’m not.
That is what I see:
A strong woman that will never flee.
