Real Friends

End of year vibes have started to creep in. Like a cycle, at this point of every year I always tend to look back and try and figure out the goals I’ve completed.

Watch closely; the key word is “figure”. Yes, I tried to “figure” it out but, honestly, I’m pretty much in the same place I was 6 months ago. And despite the fact that I owe my everything to God for this blessing of more life, I can’t help but, feel like my life runs on a stop-start-pause basis.

Fortunately for me, this weekend may prove to be very pivotal as I begin my three day quest towards a rude awakening of my internal system as a result of a physiological condition which usually causes psychological alterations of consciousness; intoxication.

Before you start judging me, this is not about the alcohol or getting high…wait, maybe a little high, but that’s not the point. The point comes in the form of a man, the company; a friend and a former schoolmate decided that we take up this drunken voyage and this was my chance to use that opportunity to reflect.

I did this once before a few years back and I came to the conclusion that I was literally and willingly the most weirdest person I ever met. Yes, I’ve met myself once before; that’s a story for another year to come. This works for me though and to have the chance to meet someone I haven’t seen in over a decade will probably make the experience more worthwhile. There are people I respect and there are people I fucking respect, and this guy is one of them.

It’s true about the company you keep and unfortunately to the fools of the past I used to call friends, you are the temptation that heaps pressure on one to take undesirable routes. I’m weeding you out.

It’s true about the company you keep; you need lions that have no worries about mere sheep.

It’s true about the company you keep; bad company corrupts good character.

It’s true about the company you keep; walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble {{Proverbs 13:20}}.

It’s true about the company you keep; you become like the 5 people you spend the most time with.

If you surround yourself with clowns, don’t be surprised when your life resembles a circus.
